“To Be God’s Friend…”

(Transcript of CD#75)

Q. Define the word friends. What is a friend?

A. The Old English word freond means lover, to love. From the Webster’s Dictionary: a friend is a person whom one knows well and is fond of; intimate associate; close acquaintance. Here is my personal favorite: a friend is a person on the same side in a struggle.

If we are going to have friends we must be willing to put out an effort to get to know them intimately. We have determined we must love them and are on the same side in this struggle called life!

Jacob’s Well @ Shechem (called Sychar in Christ’s time and NabluÆs at the present day).

  • *Proverbs 20:5 says 5Counsel in the heart of man is likedeep water; but a man of understanding [intelligence] will draw it out.

Q. Raise your hand if you have a well on your property? Was it a productive well? How much water could your well supply?

A. Our well supplied 5,000 gallon overnight to fill up the girl’s pool – the pump had to pump all night and the water got shaley. That was it – the limit – no more. The physical has limitations – the spiritual doesn’t! Think on that and let’s go to the great Gospel of John:

CD#73 “By Faith…”

“By Faith…”

(Transcript of CD#73)

In today’s study we are going to look at the subject of faith, our faith. Our faith or lack of is the very thing that will keep us in Christ Jesus or cause us to fall away. Today’s study is just to make us think about growing in our faith. We are going to look at very familiar verses of scripture. We will see how faith will cause us to make sacrifices of love. We will see how faith will take us from this world to Heaven with our Father. Faith will give you and I rest as we live daily in it. That rest will allow us to follow God’s Voice in faith wherever He leads us in His harvest field. Hold those point fresh in your mind as we move through the text. My desire is that this will just make this subject fresh to our daily lives. It’s by faith that you and I are saved in the first place:

  • *Eph. 2:8-9 says, “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9, Not of works, lest any man should boast.”

You and I have salvation because of our faith that we put into God’s gift, His Son Jesus Christ on the Cross! Satan knows that doubt is what separates us from our Lord, from our faith. He wants to take the Word out of our hearts (study Mark chapter 4) so doubt can come into action. Hearing Word of God and acting upon it is the seed of our faith:

  • *Romans 10:17 says, “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”

Q. Do you want to be blessed? Do you want God Almighty’s blessings in your life?

A. Sure we do, that’s what we’re going to address today. We’re going to look at God’s Word and see how we can be blessed.

The first step in gaining God’s blessings is:

  • *Psalm 32:1 says, “A Psalm of David, Maschil. Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered.”

CD#70 Renewing The Mind!

“Renewing The Mind!

(Transcript of CD#70)

One of the hardest things to change in our life is our way of thinking. Our mind is so very powerful it contains the words of our tongue. We know from the great book of James that our tongue is likened to a rudder on a ship in one instance. Just as the rudder on that ship turns the vessel in direction of its destiny so it is with our words. We know this because when we believed in our heart and confessed with our mouth the Lord Jesus Christ our life went from death to eternal!

So we see the importance of changing, renewing our minds to match our Lord. Please keep in mind though, how long you were building your thought patterns. It took you x many years to train yourself to where you are in life now. So don’t be discouraged when you don’t change overnight after becoming a Christian.

Today’s study is for everybody! It does not matter if your rich or poor, highly intelligent or average, powerful or weak, handsome, beautiful or homely, free or bound in some way. No matter who you are, or where you have come from: success only comes by renewing our minds and thinking according to the Lord Jesus Christ.

The world has deceived all of us, at one time or another. As time went by we started a pattern of thinking just for our survival. Dog eat dog, get them before they get us etc.…. There is no peace in a life that the world offers. So we try to find satisfaction within our minds with fleeing avenues to no avail. When we have come to our last rope we finally “try Jesus” the only true answer. Now we must learn how to reprogram our minds for success, success according to the Lord.

“The Parable Of The Candles”

(What Kind Are You?)

(Transcript of CD#68)

I received this through my email, I don’t know who the author is, but it touched my heart. As I read this I felt lead to put together a Bible study concerning these candles which represent you and me: Christians!

There was a blackout one dark night. When the lights went out, I fumbled to the closet. I knew that in my closet there were some candles made just for a dark night. I lit four of the candles breathing a sigh of relief. I was turning to leave the closet with the largest candle in my hand when I heard a voice,

“Now, hold it right there.” I asked, “Who said that?”

“I did!” said the large candle. The voice was near my hand.

“Who are you, what are you”, I asked?

“I’m a candle.”

I lifted up the candle to take a closer look. There was a tiny face in the wax, saying “don’t take me out of here”! “What”, I asked?

“You heard me, don’t take me out of this room!”

“What do you mean candle, I have to take you out of this room. You are a candle, it’s your job to give light in a darken place.”

The candle said, “Yes it is dark out there, but you can’t take me out.” The candle explained, “I need more preparation.”

I could not believe my ears, more preparation?

“Yeah I have decided I need to research this job of light-giving so I won’t go out and make a bunch of mistakes. I’m just not ready at this time in my life as a candle! You would be surprised how distorted the glow of an untrained candle can be…”

“All right then,” I said. “Your not the only candle on the shelf in the closet. I’ll blow you out and take one of the others.”

But right then I heard other voices, “We aren’t going either!”

I turned to the other candles and said, “You are candles and your job is to light dark places.”

“Well, that may be what you think”, said the first one, “You may think we have to go, but I’m busy… I’m mediating on the importance of light, it’s really enlightening.”

“And you other two”, I asked, “are you going to stay to?”

A short, fat purple candle with plump cheeks spoke up, “I’m waiting to get my life together, I’m not stable enough.”

The last candle had a very beautiful voice, pleasant to the ear.” I’d like to help, really I would,” she explained, “but lighting the darkness is not my gift… I am a singer. I sing to other candles to encourage them to burn more brightly.” She began a rendition of  “ This Little Light of Mine”. The other three candles joined in, filling the closet with singing…

I took a step back and considered the absurdity of all that had happened. Four perfectly healthy candles singing to each other about light but refusing to come out of the closet. Here is a question for you, when was the last time you shared the Gospel with someone? This world is full of darkness, with many people stumbling around trying to find their way. You can be a light for them, be just as faithful to the Lord as He is to you!

CD#69 Witnessing: A Command Or A Choice?

Witnessing: A Command Or A Choice?

(Transcript Of CD#69)

Let’s open up this Bible study with some questions to make us start to think:

“Agree or disagree” – Witnessing is not merely an activity it’s a way of life?

“Agree or disagree” – Christians don’t do witnessing; they are a witness good or bad?

1.4 million people die each year, that is one person dying every 20 seconds around the clock.

1 million abortion are performed each year in the U.S.

Q. Ask yourself: if others were only as concerned about your soul as you are about theirs, would you be saved at this moment?

Let’s cover a true story that should give us some perspective about the importance of sharing the Gospel.

At the time of the great Chicago fire(1871) that destroyed 4 square miles, the entire city rose in flames. The residences fled for shelter in the waters of Lake Michigan. The flames came closer to the waters edge, but eventually died out there. D.L. Moody found refuge in the chilly water. Near him was a young lady sitting at the waters edge. She had her head in her hands weeping hysterically wailing in uncontrollable sorrow.

Trying to comfort her, he said: “Young lady, young lady! Get a hold of yourself, you are safe now, the fire can’t reach you here. Listen to me young lady you are saved”!

Through her tears the young lady sobbed out this reply: “ yes I am saved, but I did not bring anybody with me”.

CD#67 “The Shepherd’s Heart!”

“The Shepherd’s Heat!”

(Transcript of CD#67)

Being the Christmas season, I thought it would be good to look at the shepherd’s role in the birth of Christ. I think we can learn so much from their attitude and actions. So please open your Bibles to the Gospel of Luke and let’s get started.

  • Luke 2:1-4 says, “And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Cae’sar Augustus, that the entire world should be taxed. (And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.) And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city. And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of  Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:)”

The city of Bethlehem is important here for several reasons. The first being the meaning of Bethlehem: fully translated from the Hebrew it means “house of bread” (please see John 6:48-51 for the significance of this). Let’s these verses of scripture build your faith in your Father. Our Father, God Almighty controls all things, even history. Our Lord was to be born in Bethlehem as Micah 5:2 states! If God says it, we can bank on it; it’s Truth and Life!

Tape #19 “God’s Guarantee”

“God’s Guarantee”

(Transcript of tape #19)

Q. Define what a guarantee is:

A. A formal assurance that something is a represented or that a specified acts will be performed.

It seems like guarantees don’t measure up anymore. A particular item we purchased has a guarantee – men’s! They stand behind their product for different time intervals with different restrictions. It has so many limitations on it that it seems worthless. It goes on with our politicians it seems like they talk out of both sides of their mouths. Their words, their guarantee is only as good as the moment, they change with the world’s opinion.

Praise be to God Almighty you and I have a guarantee in the Heavens, we have “God’s Guarantee”! When you and I come into a covenant with the “Creator of all” we can bank on His Words! If you have claimed God’s guarantee then rest easy because He cannot lie, see the following:

  • Titus 1:2 says, :In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;”
  • Hebrews 6:18 says, “That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us:”
