“From A Well To A River”

- *Proverbs 20:5 says 5Counsel in the heart of man is likedeep water; but a man of understanding [intelligence] will draw it out.
Q. Raise your hand if you have a well on your property? Was it a productive well? How much water could your well supply?
A. Our well supplied 5,000 gallon overnight to fill up the girl’s pool – the pump had to pump all night and the water got shaley. That was it – the limit – no more. The physical has limitations – the spiritual doesn’t! Think on that and let’s go to the great Gospel of John:
WELL OF SALVATION {The Well more for Your Personal Benefit}
*READ John 4:1-14 – [REMEMBER THE 6TH IN THE 6TH HOUR]
V. 13 – Are you thirsty? Are you tired of doing the same thing over and over again in this life and satisfaction – peace of mind seem to elude you? Then its time we change our source!!!
V. 6 & 14 – “well” #4077 (pay-gay’) a fount (literally or figuratively), that is, source or supply (of water, blood, enjoyment), (not necessarily the original spring):—fountain, well. [DIFFERENT GREEK WORD IN V 11 & 12 WHEN THE WOMAN IS SPEAKING – #5421 (freh’-ar) A HOLE DIG INT THE GROUND FOR HOLDING WATER – CISTERN] THAT’S WHY WE MUST SPEAK IN AND FROM THE WORD OF GOD AND NOT IN AND FROM OUR FLESH – THE PHYSICAL!
“springing up” #242 (hal’-lom-ahee) to jump, figuratively to gush!
“everlasting life” #166 (ahee-o’-nee-os) perpetual (also used of past time, or past and future as well):—eternal!
Q. Where is this well located? What’s the qualification to possess this well?
A. This well is located inside of the believer – inside the one who will drink!
“SALVATION” is listed 163 times in the KJV Bible! As the Holy Spirit draws us then and only then can we accept His gift of salvation – drinking in the WATER of LIFE!
- *Isaiah 12:2-3 says 2Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the LORD JEHOVAH is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation. 3Therefore with joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of salvation.
V. 3 – “draw” #7579 (shaw-ab’) to bale up water – to draw. – We must understand that everything necessary for a supporting life – abundant life flows to us from the undeserved goodness of God through His Son Jesus Christ!
“Illustration”
At the very end of the Civil War, a dejected confederate soldier was sitting outside the grounds of the White House. A young boy approached him and asked him why he was so sad. The soldier told how he had repeatedly tried to see President Lincoln. He wanted to tell the President that his farm in the South was unfairly taken away by the Federal soldiers. But each time he tried to enter the White House; the guards crossed their bayoneted guns in front of the door and turned him away.
The boy motioned to the soldier to follow him. When they approached the guarded entrance, the soldiers came to attention, stepped back, and opened the door for the boy. He proceeded to the library where the President was resting and introduced the soldier to his father. The boy was Tad Lincoln. The soldier had gained access to the President through the President’s son.
How much more should we rejoice in our access to the grace of the King of kings.
Remember Moses [Exodus 17:1-7] used the rod to strike the ROCK and WATER flowed out for the children of Israel – the rod was a type of the Cross – a type of Christ the ROCK being crucified – we “draw out” of the wells of salvation through the Cross!
KEEP THAT VEIN FLOWING FREELY – SPEAK OF LARRY’S WELL – HAS TO BE DYNAMITED EVER SO OFTEN BECAUSE THE IRON WILL STOP OFF THE FLOW OF WATER – IT CAN HAPPEN IN OUR OWN LIFE!
WATER INTO WINE
*READ John 2:1-11
V. 5 – {Mary’s last recorded words – words of faith} The Lord is a rewarder of those that diligently seek Him by faith – Hebrews 11:6.
V. 6 – [REMEMBER THE 6 IN THE 6 water pots] 6 water pots – #6 =weakness of man – manifestation of sin. These held 2 or 3 firkins apiece = 8 to 9 gallons – each one hand made and each one could hold more or less than the other – no assembly line here! These are symbolic of you and me – we’re made to hold water – to be of a service – a piece of the ROCK – stoney!
V. 7 – “fill” #1072 (ghem-id’-zo) to fill entirely from #1073 (ghem’-o ) so full that it swells out.
Q. Who gave the command for the 6 stone pots to be filled?
A. Jesus Christ gave them command and His servants filled them – they drew from their well of salvation sort of speak! Then He turned the water into wine – He is the BAPTIZER {Luke 3:16}
V. 8 – Once again obedience is required – “draw out” when? “NOW”!
LET THE RIVERS FLOW – [The Rivers more for Others Benefit]
*READ John 7:33-43 – [V. 33 –Christ sends His Holy Spirit after His death, burial, resurrection and ascension – John 14:16-19 ] During the feast, a priest would fill a golden pitcher with water from the pool of Siloam and carry it to the altar at the Temple where he would pour it through a funnel leading to the base of the altar. Probably, after this ceremony, Christ invited those who thirsted to come to Him and drink. The emptiness of Judaism is emphasized in that it fails to satisfy.
V. 40-43 –Don’t base your faith or opinions on others – base your faith on the WORD of God! “division” #4978 (skhis’-mah) [we get our English word
“schism” from this Greek word] a split or a gap – a severing!
“Milk & Cup Overflowing Illustration”
Just as this cup was made to hold something – you are too. At salvation we take in the milk of the WORD and by the washing of the water of the WORD we become pure. Then as we draw out of the well of salvation our faith grows – the as we drink in and are baptized in the Holy Spirit “WE GO FROM JUST A WELL TO RIVERS” that flow out of our lives and feed others – give them the sincere milk of the WORD that causes them to grow thereby! THE WOMAN DRAWED OUT OF A NEW WELL [JOHN 4:28-30, 39-42] –WELL OF SALVATION! OVERFLOWING INTO THAT WHOLE CITIES LIVES –SHE COMPELLED THEM TO COME TO CHRIST!
