Everyday of our lives we are presented with various situations that have been prepared way in advanced by the devil to trip us up and cause us to drink from his CUP rather than the CUP of our Lord!
*1 Corinthians 10:13-14 says, “There hath NO temptation taken you but such as common to man: but GOD is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it. Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry.”
Q. What three temptations and sins were mixed in the CUP of the devil that Eve drank?
*Genesis 3:1-6 says, “1,Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God has made. And he said unto the woman, Ye, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? 2, And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden. 3, But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. 4, And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die. 5, For God doeth know that in the day ye eat therefore, then your eyes shall be open, and ye shall be made as gods, knowing good and evil. 6, And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her, and he did eat.”
Now from those verses we just read, let’s see the devil’s CUP presented and partook of by Eve and Adam:
Tempted with Coveting…
Genesis 3:1 says, “Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God has made. And he said unto the woman, Ye, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?”
Tempted with Unbelief…
Genesis 3:2-3 says, “2,And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden. 3, But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.”
Tempted with Pride…
Genesis 3:4-5 says, “4, And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die. 5, For God doeth know that in the day ye eat therefore, then your eyes shall be open, and ye shall be made as gods, knowing good and evil.”
We must keep in mind what Christ Jesus our Lord and Savior taught us about this tempter, this one who has a CUP that brings sin and death:
*John 8:44 says, “Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.”
